Historic visit

The red carpet was rolled out today to welcome Catherine Dewar, Planning Director for Historic England, North West. After hearing about some of Blackburn’s amazing heritage projects, Catherine was keen to see for herself what we are up to and of course, we were only too pleased to show her.

After a tour of the Cotton Exchange where Lazerian’s Chromatograph is still in situ from the National Festival of Making,  we took Cathedrine to see the recently refurbished Blackburn Library.

A walk around Blakey Moor and the Townscape Project area helped her to visualise our ambitions here. She was previously unaware of Northgate’s links to film pioneers Mitchelle and Kenyon and agreed this is something we can really build on to promote the area.

Being a very stylish lady, she also enjoyed a quick shopping visit to Community Clothing!

The Cathedral Quarter and cloister gardens impressed, before a final stop at St John’s Church to see The Bureau.

Catherine was so amazed at Blackburn’s transformation and the town’s commitment to heritage, she is keen to bring her heritage peers and other professionals to Blackburn for an event next year.
